How can the new European Parliament and Commission lead the way out of the housing crisis?

An event organised by Housing Europe with the support of MEP Marcos Ros Sempere

The new European Parliament and Commission must take decisive action to tackle the housing crisis. On October 15, Housing Europe members and partners will share their on-the-ground experiences and policy recommendations with MEPs from across the political spectrum, contributing to the forthcoming EU Affordable Housing Plan. The event is kindly hosted by MEP Marcos Ros Sempere (S&D, Spain).

Housing Europe General Assembly 2024

7 June 2024 I Amsterdam, the Netherlands (EYE Film Museum, IJ-Lounge)

The annual General Assembly of Housing Europe will take place on June 7, 2024 in Amsterdam (EYE Film Museum, IJ-Lounge). Our internal meeting with members and partners will coincide with the European Parliament elections which have been scheduled for 6-9 June - a key milestone for our strategy and commitment to advocate for more decent, affordable housing.

Super-i: Accelerating energy efficient renovation of social housing in Belgium

How to combine financial viability and maximise benefits for people and the planet?

The two events are organised as part of the SUPER-i project, supporting the funding of energy efficient refurbishment of social housing stocks across Europe while increasing the share of renewable energy in the final energy consumption. It aims at generating substantial investments in energy efficiency within the social housing sector by establishing a direct dialogue among the different stakeholders, collecting relevant data on EE investments, helping to develop efficient and innovative financial schemes.

Housing cooperatives provide affordability, community, democratic governance, and promote social equality. Effective governance, member involvement, and supportive frameworks are crucial. Many also play a vital role in promoting sustainability and aligning with renewable energy initiatives, boosting their impact locally and throughout Europe. Housing Europe is hosting a session on and for housing cooperatives, our members and partners, both established and emerging.

21 February 2024 I Committee of the Regions I Final conference of the capacity-building programme of the European Affordable Housing Initiative, led by Housing Europe

The European Affordable Housing Consortium has concluded its initial phase by reconciling the need for affordable housing, the Green European Urban Renewal and the reduction of carbon emissions. For the last 24 months, the project team has been preparing the ground for a renovation wave driven by social and technical innovation centred around people.

Launch of Housing Europe's Manifesto to Lead the Way out of the Housing Crisis

25 January 2024 I European Parliament (SPINELLI 3G3), Brussels I 16:00-19:00 CET

2024 is EU election year. The focus on the housing crisis is growing at European level - the European Parliament held a plenary discussion in Strasbourg on the lack of affordable homes and difficulties people face to find a decent place to live. After a 13-year gap, housing ministers met to discuss shared challenges and common solutions, and this is now becoming an official part of several EU presidencies conference schedules. The next European Parliament must build up on the growing momentum.
