Issues tackled
This ambitious initiative aligns with Europe’s path to climate neutrality by 2050, recognising that affordable housing projects not only deliver environmental benefits but also provide wider societal returns. By showcasing and replicating successful projects, the Affordable Housing Initiative sets a benchmark for a new housing paradigm that centres on community well-being, sustainability, and innovation.
Study visits, workshops, seminars, and online classes empower participants with the skills, knowledge, and resources to combat energy poverty, promote social inclusion and cohesion, ensure long-term affordability of newly built or renovated homes, and reduce emissions from residential buildings.
Building on the achievements of its first phase (SHAPE-EU 2022–2024), which developed innovative blueprints for a just energy transition and supported 22 districts with mentorship, financial advice, and capacity-building, the Initiative has entered its second phase (SHAPE II 2024–2026). This next stage goes beyond retrofitting and energy efficiency, embracing broader values such as resilience, liveability, and circular economy principles.
📢 This phase marks a crucial moment in addressing Europe’s housing crisis, offering tailored, cost-free training to accelerate sustainable and affordable housing solutions across the continent.
Participants will gain tools, resources, and skills to deliver housing solutions that meet today’s affordability and climate challenges.
