Public, cooperative, and social housing is testing how to accelerate the adoption of heat pumps, with a focus on affordability for vulnerable households.

The install.res LIFE project, launched in November, is one of Housing Europe’s new EU-funded initiatives aimed at scaling up heat pump use across housing providers, including the Austrian limited-profit housing sector, Sozialbau. A central element is the creation of a “fast track scheme” — a catalogue of Business and Delivery solutions (B&D) tailored to various housing contexts and renewable energy sources, addressing both individual and district heating systems.

install.res wants to drive large-scale demand for heat pumps in existing buildings, develop innovative business and delivery models, launch 10–12 demonstration projects across partner countries, and create customised resources to accelerate the rollout of heat pumps.

Through this project, social housing providers will learn from best practices and pilot projects. Our Junior Innovation Officer, Margherita Marinelli will engage members in the project countries to contribute to local discussions, ensuring their needs and concerns are reflected in the catalogue.
