In Malmö, a €225 million European Investment Bank loan will help the city’s municipal housing company, MKB Fastighets AB—part of our member, Public Housing Sweden—deliver more than 1,500 energy-efficient homes.

By 2029, young professionals, families, and older citizens in Sweden’s third-largest city will have better access to affordable, high-quality housing. The 13 new residential buildings will be constructed across different neighbourhoods, meeting energy efficiency standards that exceed Sweden’s national benchmarks.

As Malmö’s population continues to grow faster than the national average, this investment will play a key role in ensuring sustainable and inclusive urban development. A major regional hub with a thriving port and strong economic ties to Copenhagen via the Öresund Bridge, Malmö is balancing rapid growth with the need for long-term housing solutions that are both affordable and climate-conscious.
