Housing Europe and Northern Ireland housing providers revive ties post-Brexit
Looking to Europe for inspiration
Belfast, Northern Ireland, 18 October 2024 | Published in EnergyFirst professional mission to the UK for Housing Europe since Brexit as our network welcomed the Northern Ireland Federation of Housing Associations (NIFHA) back again as an associated member.
During the discussions, questions from the audience highlighted several pressing topics. These included strategies for scaling up the industrialisation of renovation toolkits, potentially through joint purchasing across the sector, and how legislation can facilitate the roll-out of decentralised energy production. Additionally, practical concerns were raised, such as how to support residents in remaining at home during retrofitting.
Financing decarbonisation remains a significant challenge. While there are some positive signs emerging at the EU level, support for the sector in Northern Ireland appears to be unclear.
Now, NIFHA is looking to Europe for inspiration and willing to visit fellow housing providers who succeed in integration and management of anti-social behaviour or deliver quality and affordable housing for the elderly. Plus, they want to learn about retrofitting older homes to make them more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. Reach out to us if you want to invite NIFHA for an exchange.
