Housing Europe expands in renovation innovation know-how with BARRIO project launch

Transforming renovation practices through collaboration and technology

Faenza, Italy, 21 October 2024 | Published in Energy

Housing Europe completes its renovation innovation portfolio with the launch of the BARRIO EU-funded project, an initiative aimed at transforming large-scale building renovations through demand aggregation, supply coordination, and industrialised prefabricated solutions.

BARRIO addresses the common challenges of renovation fragmentation, energy efficiency, and sustainability, proposing innovative strategies for affordable housing providers.

At the core of this initiative is the development of a toolkit, designed to offer comprehensive and cost-effective renovation solutions. Housing Europe will engage public, cooperative, and social housing providers to test and tailor the BARRIO approach and its tools, ensuring they are adaptable to the unique contexts and policy frameworks of various social housing organisations.

Our efforts will include supporting members to explore new markets, driving policy advocacy, and enhancing communication activities to disseminate insights and results. The Brussels team will support interested members in securing funding to implement these strategies effectively.

In addition, Housing Europe will collaborate with a member organisation to identify potential new markets for partial testing. The ambition is to demonstrate compliance with BARRIO's technological criteria and try out the created mobile app in their local context.
