Making a sustainable future for social housing reality

Better housing will boost public welfare

Copenhagen, 5 September 2014 | Social, Urban

A special exhibition by BL in Copenhagen makes the connection between better social housing and the future welfare state.

The large-scale exhibition on social housing opens today in Copenhagen hosted by the Housing Europe Danish member organization, BL. It suggests sustainable solutions, social projects and architecture that sets out a path for future social housing and its role in society.

With help from their members, BL has organized this 2-in-1 event that includes a public exhibition as well as a high-level conference for the housing organizations.

Exhibits include some of the most innovative solutions from the industry. There will be 1:1 living spaces and new ways of thinking of affordable housing.

In Denmark, the social housing organizations already participate in delivering welfare to Danish society. The idea behind the exhibition in Copenhagen is therefore to raise awareness about the role of the civil society and volunteers in the future welfare society and the important role that housing organizations have.

The opening of the exhibition on September 5 will have a royal touch since Crown Princess Mary of Denmark will officially inaugurate the exhibition for the public. The Crown Princess is engaged and supports many social projects and will therefore be visiting some of the highlights on site. Among others, she will learn about “Chasing Community” which is a cooperation between the BL and Danish Architecture Center. The project is an innovative educational tool built around Minecraft and social housing that we had recently presented on our blog.

Participation is open to everyone as well as ideas how to boost pubic welfare.
