Social Housing and the fight against exclusion

History Series #2

Brussels, 11 October 2013 | Social

In 1990 it was time for the first European Seminar of CECODHAS Housing Europe.

The two years that followed the constituent General Assembly were focused on fruitful attempts to finalize the structural organization and to move forward with networking all stakeholders of the social housing sector across Europe. The second General Assembly in Luxembourg in September 1989 and the Executive Committee in Dublin in May 1990 put CECODHAS on track and set the priorities at that time. In October 1990 the time had come for the first European Seminar ever organized by CECODHAS.

“Social Housing and the fight against exclusion” was the topic of the event that took place in Brussels on the 15th and 16th of October 1990 under the auspices of the President of the European Community Commission (ECC), Jacques Delors and of the Commissioner for Employment and Industrial and Social Affairs, Vasso Papandreou.

Different aspects of the problem of social exclusion and its potential connection to social housing were presented by CECODHAS representatives. Trends in ECC countries and the effect of marginalization in urban areas set the problem to its full extent. The role of social housing in the national policies and the potential of the sector towards social integration was approached, too.

Roger Quillot was the chair of the session.
