An exhibition on the history of social housing
Brussels, 14 June 2019 | Published in Urban, SocialOn the occasion of the 2nd International Social Housing Festival in Lyon, L’Union Sociale pour l’Habitat, with the support of Housing Europe’s members, curated the exhibition 'Visual exploration of social housing in Europe'. This rare collection of images, with emblematic buildings which have marked out European social housing history, in its various aspects was presented for the first time at the Université Catholique in Lyon 4-7 June 2019.
Although there is no single model of European social housing, there are common trends in most countries that are often influenced by one another. We invite you to explore a diverse – thought- exciting history : from the first housing workers, to Modern Architecture, to the garden cities and the beginning of industrialization or the multi-family appartements era, the exhibition shows, by pictures, how social housing has always been an innovative answer to economics, social and environnemental issues, that our societies had to deal with, with a common and great idea : live in- and so- Live a better life.
In case you weren't able to visit the exhibition during the Festival, you may now take a virtual tour of it as it has been added to the unique Virtual Museum of Social Housing of USH (Musée virtuel «Hlm en Expos»).
