What if... we imagined Next Generation housing with the youth?

In 2022, the European Year of Youth, European public, cooperative, and social housing providers would like to change the narrative for the better. The EU has committed to building a better future for young generations, making their days ahead greener, more inclusive, and digital – three dimensions that are intrinsic to housing. The annual conference will be held during the International Social Housing Festival in Helsinki.

Achieving Energy Independence: the contribution of social, cooperative and public housing to the EU joint action plan RepowerEU

On May, 18th, the European Commission will present the details of the RepowerEU action plan to make Europe independent from Russian fossil fuels well before 2030, starting with gas, in light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. This plan will also outline a series of measures to respond to rising energy prices in Europe and replenish gas stocks for next winter. Questions now arise about the impact of the solutions proposed in the RepowerEU action plan on the social, cooperative, and public housing sector that interlinks with the already existing initiatives under the European Green Deal and the potential contribution of housing providers to the success of the Action Plan.

The energy crisis in Europe keeps on deepening. According to Eurostat, energy prices in the EU have risen by 17% since September 2021. In Belgium, Greece, Italy, and the Netherlands, increases have been over 30% and the conflict in Ukraine is adding further price pressures, after already large increases in recent months. These worrying circumstances are making the EU-funded POWERPOOR plan for action more and more relevant.

#ISHF2022 Info session and matchmaking for partners

Ministerial Conference on Housing and Construction

Housing Ministers are meeting in Nice

Right at the start of its six-month Council Presidency, France announced its decision to reconnect the 27 EU housing ministers on the 7th and 8th of March in Nice to discuss the European challenges of a burning issue which is a national and regional competence - the access to decent and affordable housing. The last time EU housing leaders met in this format was nearly a decade ago, in 2013.

Affordable housing crisis in the EU: why and how should Europe act?

On the eve of the ministerial meeting initiated by the French Presidency of the Council which will bring together the 27 housing ministers of the European Union in Nice on March, 8th, L’Union Sociale pour l'Habitat (USH), Housing Europe, the think-tank Confrontations Europe, and Maison de l'Europe will organise a web conference on March, 7th to discuss the role of the EU in the context of the affordable housing crisis affecting Member States.

Funding available for housing under the LIFE Clean Energy Transition programme

10th November 2021 | 14:00-15:00 CET | A special info session for Housing Europe members

The LIFE programme of the European Commission that makes possible the financing of projects in the field of the environment, biodiversity and climate has made available EUR 95 million for projects that boost the clean energy transition. This can be done by accelerating the market for it with the roll-out of technology, digitalisation, new services and business models and enhancing related professional skills; by building up on the policy framework at local, regional and national level or by involving and empowering citizens to be part of the so-called Clean Energy Transition.
