A European Economic and Social Committee Conference Given that the danger of excessive housing costs no longer affects only the most disadvantaged, but an ever-growing part of the population, the purpose of housing policy must not be restricted to assisting vulnerable individuals. It must also promote the supply of affordable homes for all, ensure that housing matches family needs, promote high-quality, energy-efficient housing, a social mix within buildings and urban areas, and tackle segregation. In this context, the EESC will hold a conference which will take place on Wednesday, 4 December 2019, starting at 10h00 at the EESC premises in Brussels

Every year, more than 150 representatives of housing associations across Europe, policymakers and the civil society come together in an exchange that generates evidence-based policy suggestions on the key issues of the housing agenda.

17 Jan 19 Conference Save the date Affordable housing: a challenge for our metropolises and for Europe International conference at the European Parliament in Strasbourg | 17-18 January 2019 The aim of this event is not only to turn the spotlight on the crucial issue of housing in Europe, and its inextricable connections to other aspects of European policy (innovation, transport etc.), but also to tackle head on the problems of housing poverty and the need to adopt a strong, specific Europe-wide policy on housing and living conditions. With this aim in mind, and given the disparities which exist between different European nations, the goal of this conference will be to obtain a broad perspective on potential initiatives for the future, in response to our shared priorities in areas such as providing housing for our most vulnerable citizens, welcoming migrants, building affordable housing and reducing energy bills. More generally, our ambition for these days is to identify action strategies at European level with a view to achieving greater social cohesion at territorial level.
