World Habitat (member)

Independent housing research organisation

World Habitat (formerly known as Building and Social Housing Foundation - BSHF) is an independent housing research organisation that promotes sustainable development and innovation in housing through collaborative research and knowledge transfer.

World Habitat does not take sides, other than with what works and what is good. They find, support, share and celebrate those ideas and actions that have an overwhelmingly positive impact on individuals, families and communities. World Habitat wants to make housing, not an investment, or a dream, but a basic right for everyone.

The World Habitat Awards – organised in partnership with UN-Habitat – recognise and highlight innovative, outstanding and sometimes revolutionary housing ideas, projects and programmes from across the world.

Through peer exchanges and our networks, World Habitat brings people and ideas together – from major global institutions and national governments to grass-roots organisations and local communities.

They initiated and are now working with ten cities to end street homelessness through the European End Street Homelessness Campaign.

World Habitat has been among the founding members of Housing Europe in 1988.
